Growing

It’s growing and it’s going to take a long time
Before we see the world the way it will be:
A sweet serenity. True acceptance. Revolutions.
But we slow the evolution of ideas
and the change we will need to rearrange
in order to reveal a real improvement
in our quality of living,
giving, not receiving, as the basis of our wealth.
Health of society based on a foundation of:
The Common Good.
We should have done this long ago,
but it is not too late.
Our fate is not determined by our ghosts:
Ungracious hosts who haunt our visions of equality.
Society is not prepared to permit the past to grow,
or to acknowledge that we know there were mistakes.
We must recognize it takes a united effort and shared hope
to cope with tragedy of traumatic yesteryear.
We cannot fear that we are doomed to repeat past follies.
Something more is growing, gasping for air.
We’re not yet there, clinging to traditions we don’t need,
feeding on the wrong types of dreams.
Though it seems it will take some time,
we will mature and grow together,
no matter how much we resist.
